California Water Utility Companies

The Baldwin Hills water system primarily relies on groundwater sources from the western Central Basin. It's supplemented with water purchased from Western Basin Municipal Water District (WBMWD), an authorized wholesaler of treated water from the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWDSC).

In 2017, the Baldwin Hills water supply consisted of 66% well water and 34% purchased water from WBMWD. The purchased water from WBMWD comes from surface water treated at MWDSC's Weymouth Water Treatment Plant. MWDSC utilizes two natural surface water sources: the Sacramento River and Colorado River, conveyed via the California Aqueduct (State Water Project) and Colorado River Aqueduct.

Treatment for this imported surface water includes coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection. California American Water distributes to residential and commercial customers throughout Ladera Heights, Windsor Hills, View Park, and unincorporated Los Angeles County areas.

Since October 2007, MWD has added fluoride to treated water at an optimized target level of 0.8 mg/L. Local groundwater naturally contains fluoride at approximately 0.4 mg/L. Groundwater supplies are disinfected with chlorine to ensure bacteriological quality, while surface water receives chloramine disinfection.
